Ask Doctors & Dentists for referrals, history transfers needed for
prescriptions, eyeglasses, and/or
x-rays.
Obtain birth records, medical records, etc.
Arrange for medical services: Doctor, Dentist, Veterinarian, etc.
PETS
Ask about state, local regulations for licenses, tags, etc.
SCHOOLS
Obtain school transcripts (some school districts require that these be
sent directly from the prior
school)
DON'T FORGET TO
Empty freezer and plan use of foods.
Defrost freezer and clean refrigerator thoroughly.
Place charcoal inside to dispel odors.
Have major appliances serviced before moving.
Clean rugs and clothing before moving. Have them wrapped.
Check with your moving company regarding insurance coverage,
packing & unpacking labor,
arrival date, required shipping papers
and method and time of expected
payment.
Plan for special care needs of infants and pets.
Check with State Department of Agriculture of new area for any
restrictions on plants.
ON MOVING DAY
Carry enough cash or travelers checks to cover the cost of moving
services and expenses until you
make banking connections in your
new city.
Carry all valuable jewelry and documents yourself, or use registered
mail.
Plan for transportation of all pets; if unhappy, they are poor traveling
companions.
Advise close friends & relatives of route and schedule you will be
traveling, including overnight
stops. Use them as message
headquarters.
Double-check all closets, drawers and shelves to be sure that they are
empty.
Leave old keys, garage door openers, broiler pans, landscape, house
plans and instruction manuals
needed by the new owner with the real
estate agent.
AT YOUR NEW ADDRESS
Obtain Cashiers Checks necessary for closing real estate transaction.
Schedule utility services, power, telephone, gas, water and cable TV.
Ask mail carrier for any mail that they might be holding for your
arrival.
Obtain new drivers license, vehicle registrations and new plates with
new address.
Visit City offices to register to vote.
Register family in your place to worship.
Register children in school.
